Streamers are a name for people who play video games live on Youtube, Twitch, or even Facebook – and they’ve taken over the internet.

Remember when kids used to say, “when I grow up, I wanna be a doctor/vet/lawyer/engineer/velociraptor“?

Well, now they say they want to become streamers. It’s a kid’s dream – play video games for 10 hours a day and get paid to do it!

But, it’s not the kind of thing you can just do on a whim and expect to suddenly get popular overnight (but that does happen sometimes). It takes a lot of time and dedication for most streamers to see the reward for their work, and there’s no guarantee that your hard work will pay off.

(Many streamers have grown so popular that they are even more recognizable than actors, singers, or other celebrities!)

But, I’m talking about streamers today because I wanted to discuss the money they make. They essentially have turned this passion of theirs into a full-time job.

It’s easier to justify sitting in front of a computer screen screaming at your in-game avatar when you’re making thousands of dollars a month to do it.

I know, it seems kind of insane that streamers can make this kind of money – but they can.

Streaming itself has become extremely popular in recent years. Popular streaming site Twitch sees BILLIONS of hours of streams watched per year. With subscription packages, donations, and ad revenue piling up, more people watching means more money for the streamer.

Turning a passion (in this case, video games) into a lucrative full-time job is a life goal for many. And while only a select few get popular enough to turn out a tidy profit, the point is that they all started at the very bottom rung.

It goes to show that anything is possible with a bit of work and dedication.
