Ever see that show on the History Channel, “The Curse of Oak Island”?
Here’s the gist of it:
Somewhere north of us, in Nova Scotia, is an island called – wait for it – Oak Island. What’s truly fascinating about this island are the legends of buried treasure there!
I know. It sounds like I’m essentially pitching a Goonies movie reboot here but stick with me.
The story goes that Captain Kidd (or the Templar, depending on who you ask) buried treasure on various islands in the 1600s, and Oak Island is one of them.
Now, fast forward through many, many years. Treasure hunters have been relentlessly scouring the island for this cache, and the land has been bought and sold countless times by those trying to find it.
Rick and Marty Lagina, stars of the History Channel TV series, brought the island’s legend to the mainstream. On their show, they use a seemingly endless supply of money to fund their efforts to find this hypothetical treasure. Remember, this is based solely on a legend and some suspicious-sounding clues.
Each episode of the show would cover some intriguing discovery they had made and spend the other 22 minutes of the episode reiterating the legend and the significance of what they found.
The show began in 2014 and is still running, and guess what? They still have not found the treasure. But dang, it makes for some good TV, even if it is frustrating to watch. (I mean, come on! How many episodes does it take to bring in a backhoe, guys! Just dig the dang thing up already!)
I guess anything is possible with funding from a major network.
So, say that you found a mysterious treasure map in a bottle on the beach: would you pull out all the stops on a treasure hunt? Many of us can’t just drop everything and chase the unknown. But, the vague promise of riches can seem too good to pass up.
The truth is, you don’t need a treasure map. You’re richer than you think already! I mean, you may need some help along the way to find your own buried pirate/templar gold, and that’s just what we’re here for; to be your treasure hunters!
