We Americans love our dogs.
We spend close to $100 billion a year on pets in general, making it quite a lucrative industry.
And while many people humanely adopt their pets from animal shelters, some are not afraid to drop big dollars for a very rare breed.
The record is $1.6 million for a Tibetan Mastiff, a monster of a dog with long, thick hair.
In this case, it was purchased by a Chinese businessman.
Model Kylie Jenner is rumored to have spent $50,000 for her bulldog.
And those dogs you see on the Westminster dog show can easily fetch that same amount.
Of course, anyone who loves their dog probably wouldn’t sell it for any price. So every dog should be priceless, although it’s just as easy to love a shelter dog as it is a $2,000 Akita.
Every purchase has an alternative the buyer should consider, especially if it’s cheaper and serves the same purpose.
It’s for this reason I rarely recommend volatility investments like gold and cyber currency. Yes, you can make money with those (as well as lose money), but the alternatives are often more appealing when compared to other investment options.
For example, historically, large U.S. stocks have easily outperformed gold but with much less volatility.
