Here’s a wild story:

An enterprising Chinese restaurant owner decided to take a different approach for getting more business.

Instead of improving his noodle recipe, he instead laced his noodles with opium to get his customers addicted and increase the odds of them returning for more. Yes, opium.

Incredible!

The trick was discovered by accident when one of the customers tested positive for morphine (the active component in opium) during a police inspection. The man was shocked, since he insisted, he hadn’t willingly taken any drugs. The only thing he ingested was a bowl of noodles from this restaurant.

So, the police made a surprise visit, took a packet of snail powder, and discovered it tested positive for morphine.

The owner of the establishment was arrested and admitted he used the powder as a secret ingredient to get customers addicted and coming back for more.

We consider this an unusually lazy way to increase business. Secretly giving customers a drug so they become addicted to your food is no way to win a Michelin star, that’s for sure.

However, there are some business owners who simply don’t understand what their customers want. It’s not rocket science. Figure out what people like and then give it to them.
