Back in the day, just before Superman flew off to save the day, he would shout, “Up, up, and away!”

Well, it looks like you won’t have to put on that famous blue suit and red cape to take a fun trip “up, up, and away.” A recent piece in the luxury magazine “The Robb Report” notes that the company “Space Perspective” will soon be voyaging to the very edge of space.

The Florida based company plans to give travelers the trip of a lifetime – not with rockets, but with a massive balloon instead.

Nearly a football stadium in length, the space balloon will carry a passenger capsule to an altitude of 100,000 feet… almost 19 miles high. From this vantage point, you’ll have a fantastic view of Earth and the cosmos.

They expect the entire experience will take about six hours: two hours to reach the edge of the atmosphere, two hours to hang out and enjoy the view, and then two more to return safe and sound to good old Terra Firma.

For those of us who’ve always had the dream of making that trip to space, this offers just about the closest thing you can get, short of signing up for NASA and squeezing your way into that pressurized suit.

The investment required to indulge in this astronaut fantasy tour hasn’t been finalized, but it’s expected to run about half the price of a trip on the sub-orbital space plane – currently estimated at around an out of this world $125,000.

Being able to take in the Earth at a glance would change your perspective on what’s important. Even so, a down-to-earth approach to investing will always make good sense.
