I know… you’re wondering what the heck is PAPOYF Day?
Easy. It’s Put A Pillow On Your Fridge Day!
This unusual holiday is celebrated on the 29th of May each year, in Europe and the U.S.
And it’s a day that focuses on prosperity, good fortune, and having bit of fun along the way. It started back in the early 1900’s. Families would place a piece of cloth or linen within their larders — a cold room or closet where meat and other provisions were stored.
On May 29th, the family would place a piece of cloth in the larder. It would usually be torn from something kept in their bedroom, such as a blanket or night gown.
The families thought good fortune and prosperity would come from this. I’m not making this up. It’s a real thing.
They believed placing a piece of cloth from their bedroom into the place where their food was kept, bought about the possibility of plentiful food and rich fertility to their household.
Over time, larders went out and refrigerators came in. And instead of this unusual holiday phasing out, people just adjusted with the times and put a pillow on top of their refrigerator.
Try finding a Hallmark greeting card for that!
