One event many look forward to overcome the Winter blues is the annual “pat-myself-on-the-back” industry lovefest known as “The Oscars” – where the glitterati gather to see who’s the best of the best in Hollywood.

But just in case Oscar’s not your cup of tea, there’s another option…
Where the envelope opened doesn’t reveal the year’s BEST, but instead, the year’s WORST…

“The Razzies”

The Golden Raspberry Awards – A.K.A. Razzies – is the brainchild of film industry veterans John J. B. Wilson and Mo Murphy.  First launched in Wilson’s living room in 1981, the event has grown to attract audiences and interest world-wide.

The Not-So-Coveted “Razzie” is a small, gold spray painted statuette of a raspberry resting on mangled Super 8 mm film reel. Rumors place its street value at a lofty $4.97.

Categories include Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actor, Actress, etc. with a special category for Worst Prequel, Re-Make, Ripoff, or Sequel.
Of course, because Hollywood has always managed to up their game year after year, special categories of awards have been given out, including:

  • 1996 – Worst Written Film Grossing Over $100 Million – “Twister”
  • 1997 – Worst Reckless Disregard for Human Life and Public Property – “Con Air”
  • 1997 – Worst Reckless Disregard for Human Life and Public Property – “Con Air”
  • 2002 – Most Flatulent Teen-Targeted Movie – “Jackass: The Movie”

And a very special mention…

  • 2017 – The Razzie Nominee So Rotten You Loved It – “Baywatch”

So pop some corn, grab a cold beverage, and settle in for a night of films and stars that I’m sure you’d rather forget.
