Ever get stuck on a problem and not know what to do next?

You’re not alone. It’s common to all and for centuries people have searched for just the right way to find solutions.  The ancients scattered bones, examined tea leaves, or gazed at the stars searching for clues.

Today, consultants offer classes and training in “IDEATION” – a fancy word for the basic exercise of tossing ideas against the wall to see if something sticks.

According to an article on Inc.com, here are a few brainstorming notions to overcome karmic congestion that might get your noodle noodling…

Reverse Storming – they say lawyers love this… ask yourself, “what would MOST people do in this situation?” and then figure out ways to do exactly the opposite. Another angle on this is to pose the question: “If I wanted to make sure THIS didn’t happen, what would I do?”

Change Your Attributes – we all carry baggage based on our experiences, sex, age, opinions, what have you. This approach suggests that to look at a problem from a fresh angle, start flipping these attributes in your imagination one by one. For example, change what you weigh by a significant amount and let your subconscious fiddle with that – it could lead to a new perspective you never imagined.

Blind Writing – Simply grab a pen, set aside 10 minutes, and start writing as fast and furiously as you can. There’s no right or wrong way to do this, just force yourself to keep going for the full amount of time. It’s almost a sure bet this exercise will generate ideas you wouldn’t have otherwise.

Generating creative solutions and ideas comes naturally to some, not so easily to others. Next time you feel stuck, give one of these approaches a try.

One area you do NOT want to feel stuck is in your long term financial planning. And it can seem overwhelming to be sure. That’s why we’re here – to help make everything clear and easy to understand, and to bounce ideas off while planning the kind of financial future that works best for you.
