A frightened investor goes to his financial advisor and asks if he’s at all worried about the volatility of the markets these days. The advisor replies that he sure does! In fact, he says that he sleeps like a baby.
The frightened investor was amazed. “Really? Even with all the fluctuations?”
“Yup,” stated the advisor. “I sleep for a couple of hours, and then I wake up and I cry for a couple of hours.”
As Ben Franklin says, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
When it comes to improving your health, one of the simplest ways to go about it is making sure you get enough rest.
Why is sleep so important? Because you:
- Get sick less often
- Stay at a healthy weight
- Lower your risk for serious health problems, like diabetes and heart disease
- Reduce stress and improve your mood
- Think more clearly and do better in school and at work
- Get along better with people
- Make good decisions and avoid injuries – for example, sleepy drivers cause thousands of car accidents every year
To ensure you have a restful night, try to:
- Avoid using an electronic device at least 30 minutes before going to bed.
- Create a comfortable sleep environment. Make sure your bedroom is dark and quiet.
- Set a bedtime routine and go to bed at the same time every night.
When well-rested, you’re better prepared to make important decisions. You’ll be alert enough to notice details and have enough energy to even develop creative strategies for your success.
