Work, work, work.

Pounding the pavement to make a living is pretty much what all of us need to do day in, day out.

But did you ever wonder where the world’s richest, most powerful men and women got their start?  Some of their stories may surprise you:

  • Warren Buffett – you know, that guy who plays bridge with Bill Gates and is the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway worth around $86 Billion… he began his illustrious career at the tender age of six years old. He would buy packs of gum and then resell them at a profit.  (It’s said he switched to Coca-Cola once he figured out “the pause that refreshes” could increase his profit margins.)
  • Mark Cuban – famed for his role as a potential investor on “Shark Tank,” he’s amassed over $4 Billion through investments in a number of businesses including the Dallas Mavericks’ Basketball team. He got his start at age 12… he needed money for a new pair of shoes and when Dad wouldn’t bankroll them, he went door-to-door selling garbage bags.
  • Beyonce Knowles – in 2018, Beyonce was the third highest paid musician on the planet, with earnings totaling over $60 Million and is now worth about $400 Million. But her golden voice wasn’t key to her first role in business… she started out working in her mom’s salon, sweeping hair off the floor.

And wrapping it up…

  • Jeff Bezos – Amazon’s founder, world’s richest man with a fortune measuring over $111 Billion dollars did NOT (as you may expect) kick start his career as a tech-wiz computer programmer. Instead, he developed his early business skills flipping burgers for McDonalds.

Goes to show you never know who you might meet at the drive-through window.
