I’m curious, have you given much thought to where you’re going to live when you retire?

Most of us dream of living out our golden years somewhere warm, sunny, and beautiful. No wonder so many of our Northern neighbors flock to Florida!

There’s a lot more to consider than just the climate, though.

Look for a home that will accommodate your needs as you get older. Trading in that 2,500 square foot, four-level, five-bedroom behemoth bungalow for a 1,200 square foot single-level ranch style home with two bedrooms. The second type of home is much easier to maintain and navigate, and you can add some simple upgrades like shower seating and handles to make things even more accessible.

You may want to kick me for saying this, but at some point, you may need to give up driving.

I know – why don’t I just cut your arm off while I’m at it?

For that reason, looking for a city with excellent public transit (or a low-cost taxi or van service for seniors) will help you maintain your freedom even if you can’t get behind the wheel yourself.

Last but not least, ensure that you have access to healthcare, amenities, and opportunities for family time and socializing where you retire. Too many seniors end up isolated, unhappy, and neglected, so make your happiness a part of your retirement plan.

That all sounds great, but how are you gonna pay for this nice, comfy retirement?

You probably know already that you should have a plan for when you stop working, but where do you even begin?
