Ah, those January blues…
- It’s cold, it’s blustery.
- You’re dreaming of the great outdoors and how you can get the kids out of the house for a change.
- Christmas took a toll on your wallet (you’ve got the credit card statements to prove it), and you’re thinking about how you can save a buck.
Well, get ready!
The next “New Year, New You” 30-Day Challenge is here – Find Something Free To Do! I’m sharing some great ideas on how you can go heavy on activities and light on your pocketbook. Let’s get started!
Go back to school. Well, not inside, anyway. Did you know schools and universities often have ways that you can get outdoors for free exercise?
These can be a great way to save gym fees – some have facilities like running tracks and outdoor arenas (stair runs, anyone?). Just be sure to check each school’s policy regarding off-hours/personal use.
Get social. Facebook and other social media platforms have free local groups and events. The popular website Meetup.com allows you to meet up with like-minded individuals – finally, someone else who shares your passion for trout tickling!
Brush up on your history. You might already know that many museums and art galleries offer free admission to certain social groups and persons. What you might have missed is that these facilities may offer free access to the general public at specific times.
This could range from a specific holiday – think July 4th – but many museums and art galleries offer free admission an hour or two before closing. This is a great deal!
There’s less of a crowd, and most people only spend a few hours wandering around anyway!
Get gaming. When you think of gaming, you might think of sitting on the couch. But, the truth is there are several apps designed to get you out and about.
A popular app, Pokemon GO, will allow you to catch and battle virtual monsters while walking around your own town. Meet other users and make some new friends at local events!
Not your thing? No worries. Even if you live in a small town, there are always free events and activities in your area that align with your interests.
Today’s challenge? Find 3 events in your area that your or your family will benefit from!
You can also benefit from creating a solid financial plan of your own to see you through to retirement and beyond.

(And look, now you only have to find 2 free events!)
