Ever get that feeling of déjà vu?

It might have hit you in the form of having the same conversation with the same person in an eerily similar way (or maybe the same conversation with a different person. Or maybe you swear you saw the same cat crossing your path twice. You’re not going crazy.

Déjà vu originates from the French language and translates to ‘already seen’, making the meaning pretty obvious.

In most cases, déjà vu itself only happens once, but in the 1993 movie, ‘Groundhog Day,’ weatherman Phil Connors (played by Bill Murray) gets stuck in a time loop that resets at the end of the day and brings him back to the beginning of the titular Groundhog Day.

In the first of many maddening loops, Phil assumes he is merely experiencing a case of déjà vu. However, he figures out very quickly that something is horribly amiss and that he’s doomed to keep repeating the day over and over again.

Throughout the movie, he begins to get wreckless – after all, if there are no real consequences to his actions, what’s to stop him from doing whatever he wants?

He attempts to end the loop countless times but is unsuccessful in every attempt until finally, he decides to use his powers for good and improve himself and others’ lives. With seemingly infinite time to practice, he gains some incredible new skills (like playing the piano) and does good deeds that win his producer Rita’s heart.

Finding love stops the loop, and after spending the night with Rita, he wakes up, and it is finally February 3rd.

Thankfully, time loops are things of fiction and not something we would need to worry about, but if you were stuck in one, would you choose to live as if your actions didn’t matter?

We live in a world where every choice matters. You can never take chances with your life or your financial future. At Money & Clarity, we can help you get a head start on preventing you from getting caught in the loop of living paycheck to paycheck, which isn’t exactly a time loop but can still make you feel like you’re stuck.
