As we come to the end of 2020, it’s the perfect time to appreciate the positive that has happened during the year.
Even though this year has been one unlike any other, there have been some good moments, right? Maybe you re-connected with older family members or celebrated the birth of new ones.
Maybe you discovered a fun home hobby – after all, many of us started to spend more time there than in the office.
I’m reminded of the famous New Year’s Eve song, Auld Lang Syne. What does it mean, anyway?
The phrase, auld lang syne is Scottish for “should old acquaintances be forgot?”
In other words, should old friends be forgotten? It’s a rhetorical question and of course, the answer is “no.” We shouldn’t forget old friends but rather cherish them.
Should Old Acquaintance be forgot,
and never thought upon;
The flames of Love extinguished,
and fully past and gone:
Is thy sweet Heart now grown so cold,
that loving Breast of thine;
That thou canst never once reflect
On old long syne?
Of course, are also some “acquaintances” that we’d probably like to forget.
Like… masks. Empty store shelves. Empty restaurants. Canceled events.
No one wants to remember them.
But no matter the challenges, there’s always something to appreciate about the year. I’d like to take this moment to let you know that I do appreciate YOU and that you’ve allowed me into your inbox to share some amusing stories and hopefully, some valuable lessons.
