You heard it all the time growing up.
“Eat your breakfast! It’s the most important meal of the day!”
… usually accompanied with breakfast staples like toast, cereal, pastries, oatmeal, or eggs and bacon.
Yes, breakfast is an important meal (even if you don’t think it’s the most important).
Here’s why:
The word “breakfast” literally means that you are breaking your fast of the last 10 hours (assuming you didn’t succumb to that slice of cheesecake waiting for you in the fridge at midnight). Your body is pretty deprived of nutrients by morning, so what you put into it in the morning can make or break your day.
If you skip breakfast, you might find you feel a bit sluggish and struggle to focus by 10am.
Studies suggest that not having breakfast affects your mental performance. This includes your ability to focus and concentrate – even your memory! The result? Tasks feel way harder than they should.
“I don’t have time to worry about making breakfast!” ← is that you, Nikki?
In your morning hustle, you might not have the time to worry about whipping up something healthy, and that’s fine! Something as simple as a muffin, or overnight oats prepped the night before can do wonders for your morning energy levels.
If you don’t have time to commit to getting something ready ahead of time, have a small snack. This will tide you over until you can have something substantial at work.
