Sometimes, a person’s stubbornness can cause all kinds of trouble.
Take, for instance, a stubborn homeowner in the Guangdong province in China. Because she refused the government’s offer to buy her home for a development project, they had no choice but move ahead in another way.
They built their bridge over and around her home.
The property is now squeezed between the lanes of the new Haizhuyong Bridge.
It’s located in a pit… in the middle of the four-lane road bridge.
The owner, Ms. Liang, told reporters that the government failed to provide her with a suitable replacement property. Instead, they offered her a flat near a morgue, which was unacceptable. The government did make several offers—one being a monetary compensation of 1.3 million yuan ($186,500). She allegedly asked for four flats and 2 million yuan ($287,000).
And as you might imagine, she’s getting trashed on social media for being too greedy. Some accused her of trying to force the government’s hand by paying her more.
Now Ms. Liang can enjoy the sound of traffic running across her roofline.
I guess it’s a matter of knowing what’s important to you and counting the cost of keeping it.
