Remember the old story of “Chicken Little?”
“The sky is falling! The sky is falling!”
Well, chickens running around in fear of the atmosphere’s collapse have something new to worry about, at least the ones flitting about Florida:
Falling Iguanas!
Yes, there’s recently been reports of iguanas dropping like flies from trees throughout the sunshine state.
How could this happen? Is Florida Man to blame?
Maybe a little – a literal iguana invasion has taken place over the past decades. An invasive species likely brought here first as pets who escaped into the wild, the state now considers them a threat to local vegetation as well as sidewalks and foundations due to their affinity for burrowing.
But they don’t just linger underground – iguanas love to climb trees to roost at night. And with recent cold snaps dipping down into the 20s, the reptiles’ metabolism slows down to practically nothing…
Turning them essentially into iguana-cicles.
Immobilized, they’re unable to maintain their balance in the branches above, which causes them to fall from the trees onto whatever and whoever’s below.
Strangely enough, even though they look dead, once the weather warms up their body temperature rises and they’re ready to scamper off and do their thing… shuffleboard, golf, theme parks, rock-lounging, whatever.
(Some say they’re actually quite tasty when properly prepared… I’m going to take a pass on that for now.)
Keeping your eyes open for unpleasant surprises – reptile or not – is just wise. This applies to your portfolio as well. Give us a call 513-563-PLAN (7526) or book online today to schedule your review today.
