So, back in the distant past – around 1972 – Alice Cooper released his hit song, “School’s Out.”
It became an anthem for a generation fed up with attending class.
Unsurprisingly, that generation discovered to its dismay that career success (and life success for that matter) required you to make learning part of a life-long process.
Of course, WHAT you invested time and treasure to learn remained up to you.
Therefore, for your enjoyment, here are some ACTUAL college courses you may not have heard of to consider as part of your ongoing educational adventure.
- Maple Syrup – The Real Thing. Sticky, tasty, mission-critical for pancakes and waffles alike, Alfred University offers a course that teaches history of Maple Syrup along with the secrets to making it yourself.
- Street Fighting Mathematics – If you’re not Math-phobic, then this may change your mind… MIT offers a course that goes into the variables and equations associated with punching someone’s nose. Solve for X or else!
- Joy of Garbage – Santa Clara University decided to take “taking out the trash” to new levels of analysis, with a program diving deep into how waste decomposes and adds aromatic ambience to the curb.
- UFOs In American Society – Temple University knows the truth is out there and they want to share what they know with their students. Little Green Men, Alien Abductions, and Saucer Technology is all open for debate and discussion.
Finally, one class I’m certain no dedicated couch potato could resist:
- How to Watch Television – Sounds like this offering from Montclair State University would be no challenge to experienced channel-surfers, but it does demand that students “critically evaluate the role and impact of television” in their lives and how the boob-tube affects the civilization at large. Weighty stuff to consider when wolfing down that bag of chips.
One thing I do know is that when it comes to creating a financial plan to build wealth and security, class is never out of session.
