According to UrbanDictionary.com, the phrase “Git-R-Done” originated in the early 1990s as a call to action for good ol’ boys who fell behind on mission critical tasks like rebuilding a transmission or clearing brush from the back 40.
Most of us, however, associate “Git-R-Done” as the catchphrase for Stand-Up Comedian Larry the Cable Guy… as well as the title for his autobiographical book.
I think “Git-R-Done” resonates with so many because we all fall victim to starting far more projects than we finish. Indeed, getting something DONE can be a tough challenge for anyone – especially small business owners.
Therefore, courtesy of AllBusiness.com, here are 3 “Git-R-Done” productivity tips you might find handy:
- Eliminate Mindless and Tedious tasks from Your Day. We all get mired down in stuff that really doesn’t pay off or matter. Instead, make a list of all the tasks you do each week – from clearing out your emails to talking withclients – and analyze whether this can be either delegated or simply deleted. If YOU doing it is not paying off, get rid of it.
- Always Plan Your Ideal Day. Establish a specific outline for what you want to accomplish every single day. Having a plan in place for every hour you intend to work helps you battle against our natural tendency to veer off into time-wasting habits – enabling you to FOCUS on what’s most important all through the day.
- Be Accountable and Reward Yourself for Success. If it’s YOUR business, it’s hard to find someone to hold your feet to the fire… which means, that ugly task is up to you. Don’t pull any punches on holding yourself accountable. Realistically assess how well you’re doing in managing your time. And when you do hit your goals, make sure to reward yourself for a job well done.
These tips work even if you’re not running your own business – because we can all benefit from being more efficient and productive in what we do each day.
